PesaCheck stands as the continent’s foremost indigenous fact-checking initiative, boasting teams in 18 African countries. This pioneering endeavor diligently debunks misinformation disseminated both online and through traditional media channels, producing over 2,000 fact-checks annually. Collaborating with prominent platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and traditional media outlets, PesaCheck ensures accuracy prevails in public discourse. Moreover, it monitors promises made by public officials and scrutinizes public finances to safeguard against misleading information. As part of Code for Africa (CfA), the continent’s largest non-profit digital/data journalism initiative, PesaCheck wields significant influence in shaping public perception and discourse.

Successful candidates will operate within a multinational, multilingual team, leveraging digital collaboration tools to craft content for a global audience and international media partners. Key requirements include a minimum of 3 years’ experience in journalism or research, preferably within a fact-checking capacity, exceptional research and analytical skills, and proficiency in written and verbal communication. Moreover, candidates must exhibit strong news literacy, critical thinking abilities, and a steadfast commitment to accuracy and truth.

Preferred candidates will possess experience in transnational multilingual digital newsrooms, familiarity with fact-checking methodologies and digital verification tools, and proficiency in handling large datasets. Fluency in languages such as Amharic, English, Hausa, Igbo, Kiswahili, Pidgin, Ssesotho, Tigrinya, Xhosa, Yoruba, and Zulu is highly desirable, with knowledge of Arabic, French, and Portuguese considered advantageous.

As part of PesaCheck’s transnational fact-checking team, successful applicants will play a pivotal role in separating fact from fiction across various media platforms. Responsibilities include monitoring diverse public sources, analyzing public statements for factual accuracy, and producing insightful ‘explainer articles’ elucidating misinformation classifications.
